Lansing, MI – The Lansing City Council voted Monday night to postpone a vote on next year's city budget.
AUDIO:
The move gives the public more time to weigh in on an updated spending plan that surfaced only last Thursday. It calls for a 0.4 mill property tax hike along with 13 unpaid furlough days for hundreds of city workers. The decision delays the vote until next Monday.
Meanwhile, the council approved an application for about $7.5 million in low-interest housing and Brownfield assistance for the Knapp's building restoration downtown.
"So we're taking federal dollars and bringing it back to Lansing, that we don't have right now," says Lansing planning and development director Bob Johnson. "So it's affordable money to support a project."
The Eyde Company is spearheading the $23 million mixed-use development.
