Snyder's aloofness in Mich. gov race is a gamble

By AP

LANSING, MI –

Ann Arbor venture capitalist Rick Snyder prides himself on being a different kind of candidate in the Michigan governor's race.

But political analyst Craig Ruff of Public Sector Consultants says the former Gateway CEO's decision to skip two future debates sponsored by the Michigan Republican Party is a gamble.

Snyder's GOP debate opponents are sure to criticize his absence, and the former Gateway CEO won't be able to defend himself from attacks if he's not there.

Snyder campaign spokesman Jake Suski says Snyder isn't ducking debates. He says the candidate has appeared at over a dozen debates and forums with his rivals and will participate in a gubernatorial debate next month at the Detroit Regional Chamber policy conference on Mackinac Island.
