Lansing's top economic development official is confident General Motors could select the Lansing Grand River assembly plant for production of an unidentified new vehicle, creating about 600 new jobs. Bob Trezise is CEO of the Lansing Economic Development Corporation. He says the project will hinge in part on city council approval of a property tax incentive announced yesterday by Mayor Virg Bernero.
"We're very excited that we're probably at the top of that list, but we have a lot of work to do," he says. "There are a lot of factors that are a part of GM's decision-making process."
The 25-year tax package is designed to free up $30 million the automaker would spend on equipment for the project. Trezise expects a public hearing could lead to a council vote at its July 26 meeting. He says he expects a decision from the General Motors by March 31 of next year.
