MEAP to face changes in 2014

LANSING, MI –

The state's standardized test for middle and high school students could undergo a big change in a couple years. The MEAP test could move from paper and pencil to an online format in 2014.

Joseph Martineau is with the Michigan Department of Education. He says the switch should take care of some old concerns over comparing online and offline test scores throughout the country.

"There are a lot of concerns about how comparable things are online with paper and pencil, but if you have everyone online, the comparability issues basically go away because you don't have to compare it to paper and pencil anymore," he says.

Martineau says when the test goes online it will also allow for quicker feedback for teachers and students. The change is contingent on a grant from the federal government.
