Some 60,000 Scouts from across the country are in Virginia this week to take part in the National Jamboree held every four years. Tomorrow (Saturday), the program features a live interactive show broadcast on the web and via satellite to a number of cities, including Lansing.

District executive James Roney with the Chief Okemos Council says the Boy Scouts are adapting to a technology-based culture that competes for the attention of today's youth.

"For example, they now have a GPS merit badge," Roney says. "The Boy Scout handbook is now an iPhone app. There are things like that where they're really trying to bridge that gap. On the other hand, scouting is still relevant because we've stuck to our traditions; getting outdoors and teaching boys good life skills."

The national broadcast takes place Saturday evening at Cooley Law School Stadium. The event begins at 6:30.
