Former Michigan State University football player Kande Ngalamulume once again is dropping out of the race for Congress in the 8th District.

The 31-year-old from Lansing initially withdrew in June, but his name still appeared on the ballot for Tuesday's Democratic primary, which he won.

In the early morning hours of Wednesday, an excited Ngalamulume said he was "80 percent leaning" toward getting back into the race.

But he decided against it after chatting with his father, saying Thursday he will ask state officials to not include his name on the November general election ballot. He would have opposed the Republican nominee, incumbent Rep. Mike Rogers of Howell.

Democratic Party officials will work to find a replacement candidate.
