UNDATED – The Republican candidate for governor has chosen a running mate. Sources inside the campaign of Republican nominee Rick Snyder have confirmed he has chosen state Representative Brian Calley to be his lieutenant governor candidate.
Thirty-three-year-old Brian Calley is considered a reliable conservative and would bring some state Capitol experience to the ticket. Snyder is a former venture capitalist from Ann Arbor who won the Republican primary running as a centrist and political outsider.
Calley serves on state House banking and health policy committees, and is considered an expert on taxes. He was one of the GOP lawmakers who worked on reforming the state's business tax in 2007.
Calley is also a former banker recently won a hard-fought state Senate primary in mid-Michigan. Snyder is expected to formally announce the choice at a town hall rally in Grand Rapids. The choice will also have to be ratified by delegates to a state Republican convention this coming weekend.
