Democrats were trying to rally support among Michigan's women voters Monday.

Recent polls show Democrat Virg Bernero trailing far behind Republican Rick
Snyder in the governor's race.

Bernero and his running mate, Southfield mayor Brenda Lawrence were courting
women Monday, hoping to show they would better represent women's issues if
elected

"We want them to know that they have a candidate for governor they can choose, in Virg Bernero, that will stand up for their rights," she said. "And we know that will energize our women base."

Lawrence hopes Planned Parenthood's endorsement of Bernero for governor will
help spur women to turn out and vote in November.
