LANSING, MI –
A Michigan civil service hearing officer says the state violated labor rules when it canceled a scheduled 3% pay raise for certain non-union state workers.
A spokeswoman for Gov. Jennifer Granholm's administration says Tuesday it will appeal the ruling. It's expected to become part of an ongoing legal fight against the state seeking to get the raises reinstated.
The ruling could affect roughly 15,000 state workers who are managers and supervisors. Granholm's administration in late 2009 said it would rescind 3 percent raises that were supposed to kick in this month in an effort to save about $45 million.
Similar raises for union-represented employees went into effect this month.
