LANSING, MI –
A longtime Libertarian activist in Michigan has decided to run for the U.S. Senate as a Republican.
Scotty Boman made the formal announcement Friday in a press release. He joins a Republican race where most of the attention has gone to charter school leader Clark Durant and former U.S. Rep. Pete Hoekstra.
The winner of the August 2012 Republican primary would run against incumbent Democratic U.S. Sen. Debbie Stabenow in November.
Boman, of Detroit, last ran for U.S. Senate as a Libertarian in 2008. Boman ran for Michigan Secretary of State last year as a Libertarian.
Other Republicans seeking the party's 2012 Senate nomination include former Kent County Judge Randy Hekman, Roscommon businessman Peter Konetchy and Gary Glenn of Midland, president of the American Family Association of Michigan.
