A physicians' group says measles outbreaks in Indiana and Minnesota are big reasons more Michigan children should get their shots.
The Michigan Academy of Family Physicians says Wednesday that children need to be vaccinated against measles and other infectious diseases.
It notes that measles is so contagious that any child who's exposed and isn't immune probably will get the disease, which in some cases can lead to pneumonia, encephalitis and death.
The federal Centers for Disease Control says at least 214 children have been infected with measles nationally this year, a 300 percent increase over typical years. It's the largest measles outbreak in the past 15 years.
