LINDA WERTHEIMER, HOST:

Good morning. I'm Linda Wertheimer. A Milwaukee woman laid down a $100 bill and bought a restaurant. It's a socially conscious eatery on Milwaukee's South Side, open to help a transitional neighborhood. Using local growers, maintaining a kitchen garden and composting are part of the deal. And there are other strings attached. The new owner has to feed the old owner and his wife one free meal a day for a year. It's MORNING EDITION. Transcript provided by NPR, Copyright NPR.
