Services set for Michigan Chronicle publisher

DETROIT –

A funeral service has been announced for Samuel Logan Jr., the publisher of the prominent African-American newspaper the Michigan Chronicle.

The newspaper announced Thursday that Logan's service will be held at 10 a.m. Jan. 6 at Greater Grace Temple in Detroit. Hartford Memorial Baptist Church Rev. Charles Adams will officiate.

Visitation will be held from noon to 9 p.m. Wednesday and from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. next Thursday at the Swanson Funeral Home in Detroit.

Logan died Wednesday at his home in Detroit and a cause of death hasn't yet been determined. He was 78.

The newspaper also said Hiram Jackson will serve as its interim publisher. Jackson is chief executive of the Chronicle's parent company, Real Times Media.

Logan's career at the Chronicle spanned a half-century.
