Meadows calls for school inspection mandate

By Mark Bashore, WKAR

EAST LANSING, MI –

State representative Mark Meadows wants more frequent school building inspections in Michigan. The East Lansing Democrat has announced he is seeking a co-sponsor for legislation that would mandate inspections every five years.

"Where we have an opportunity to discover, maybe a structural problem that might have developed, that we at least have a requirement that a regular inspection takes place," he says. "Now some schools already do it every year. They inspect the property every year, but not everybody is doing that."

The announcement comes three months after a wall collapsed at Williamston High School, killing freshman Gabe Corbett.
