The Ingham County Health Department is limiting outdoor gatherings to no more than 25 people in part of East Lansing.
Outdoor gatherings in Michigan are currently restricted to 100 people or less under Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s executive order. Ingham County Health Officer Linda Vail is taking that restriction a step further in the city.
Tuesday’s emergency order limits social outdoor gatherings to no more than 25 people in an area north of Michigan State University’s campus known for large house parties.
The order affects the area from the northern edge of Michigan State University’s campus to Burcham drive, west to Harrison Road and Hagadorn Road to the east. It also includes properties adjacent to those streets.
Some places exempt from the order include schools and childcare centers, restaurants, and places of worship.
In June, an outbreak at an East Lansing bar ultimately resulted in 192 people becoming infected with COVID-19, according to a spokesperson from the Ingham County Health Department.
The order remains in place indefinitely and is one of many local mandates recently issued to prepare for the return of students for MSU’s fall semester. People who disregard the order could be subject to imprisonment or a fine of up to $200.
Capacity for indoor gatherings remains at 10 people, per an executive order.
