A rare joint gathering of the Lansing City Council and the Lansing School Board became a forum Friday for neighborhood leaders who are upset over the school district's reorganization process. Nancy Mahlow of the city's Eastside Neighborhood Organization claims the district ignored suggestions that took groups weeks to gather.

"They didn't care," she says. "What we had presented was not what they wanted."

Mahlow says residents want to support moves to restructure the cash-strapped district, but that groups like hers need to be heard.

Superintendent Yvonne Caamal-Canul admits there isn't time to process all feedback, but that residents have had ample opportunity to weigh in.
