Gov. Rick Snyder says he hopes to return from a week-long China trip with both new and renewed business and trade relationships.
The Republican governor and former business executive says the trip from Tuesday through Sept. 27 with other officials aims to boost trade, tourism and investment between the countries. It includes stops in Shanghai and several provincial capitals.

He says one goal is rekindling a 30-year sister relationship between Michigan and the Sichuan province "that hasn't been as active as it should be."

Snyder first will spend the weekend in Minneapolis with Midwest governors and Japanese officials as part of the annual meeting of the Midwest U.S.-Japan Association.

The China trip follows last year's Chinese and Asian trade mission that led to economic developments in Ann Arbor and Saginaw.
