Classes started two hours late Thursday in Bath Township near Lansing after district officials received a pair of bomb threats early this morning.

Bath schools superintendent Jake Huffman says his office received two phone messages overnight.  One indicated a bomb was to detonate at 10 p.m. Wednesday at an unnamed building.  The other indicated a second device was to detonate at 10 a.m. at Bath Elementary.  Huffman says all three of the district's schools were evacuated while authorities searched the buildings.  No devices were found, and the all clear was given at 9:30 a.m. Thursday.

Bath school officials are working with local police to conduct a criminal investigation into the incident.

In 1927, Bath Township was the site of one of the deadliest acts of school violence in U.S. history.  A disgruntled former school board  member detonated a bomb in the basement of the Bath Consolidated School, killing 44 people and himself.
