Work is under way in Detroit to welcome visitors coming to town for the World Series.
The Detroit Metro Convention & Visitors Bureau says Friday that it is printing banners to hang downtown, welcome signs for the airport and storefronts, creating D buttons and coordinating volunteers.

The Convention and Visitors Bureau estimates direct spending for the World Series will be up to $26 million if three games are played in Detroit.

The Detroit Tigers defeated the New York Yankees Thursday to advance to the World Series. It is Detroit's second World Series appearance since 2006.

Other major sporting events held downtown in recent years include college hockey's Frozen Four in 2010, the NCAA men's basketball championship in 2009 and the NFL's Super Bowl in 2006.
