State House Republicans are sticking with Jase Bolger.

As Michigan Public Radio’s Jake Neher reports, Republicans Thursday picked the Marshall lawmaker to return as speaker of the House.

After narrowly holding on to his seat in Tuesday’s general election, Bolger got a show of support from his Republican colleagues.

He has been under attack since his role in an election-rigging scandal in May, with some critics calling for him to step down from his role as the speaker and Republican leader.

Bolger says despite the combative election season, he’s willing to work with House Democrats.

“We will not get mired in politics," he says. "So we’re going to continue to focus on policy. And where we can agree, we’re happy to work together. Where we disagree, we’ll do so professionally and respectfully.”

Auburn Hills Democrat Tim Greimel will take over as state House minority leader in January. Former House Minority Leader Richard Hammel will not return next year due to term limits.
