Work to restore the exterior of the former Knapp’s Centre in Lansing has begun.

Interior restoration has been underway for several months on the historic store and office building at the corner of Washington Square and Washtenaw Avenue in Lansing.
Exterior restoration started with Eyde Company owner George Eyde taking the K down from the Knapp’s sign.
His son, project developer Nick Eyde, visited his dad in the building as a child when the company was headquartered there.
Lansing Planning and Neighborhood Development Director Bob Johnson says having the work visible from the outside will send a message about the progress being made on the project.
It’s expected to take 12 to 14 months to complete restoration work on the Knapp’s Center.
