Lansing mayor Virg Bernero has named Janene McIntyre to serve as city attorney.

McIntyre would replace Brigham Smith as city attorney. He left for a similar job in Connecticut earlier this year.

Bernero describes McIntyre as "a real pro…with incredible, quiet determination."

McIntyre is a Lansing native who graduated from Cooley Law School in 2006. She’s currently with the public finance practice groups at Foster Swift Collins and Smith in Lansing.

If approved by city council, she would become Lansing’s first female and first African-American city attorney.
