The midterm election is just a few days away.

As The Michigan Public Radio Network’s Jake Neher reports, candidates are beginning their final push to get supporters to show up and vote next Tuesday.

“How are you doing, brother? Mark Schauer. "Are you going to help me become governor? All you got to do is vote.”

Democratic nominee for governor Mark Schauer is embarking on a statewide campaign tour. He kicked it off by greeting auto workers in Lansing as they got off their shift.

Schauer says he’s confident in his chances, especially after recent reports show strong numbers in his favor with absentee voters who have already cast their ballots.

“That shows the momentum,” he says.  “And I’m going to talk to voters in every corner of the state over the next five days and make sure we turn people out.”

On Saturday, Republicans will launch a statewide bus tour to fire up supporters. That tour will include a visit by New Jersey Governor Chris Christie.
