Michigan voters have until eight o’clock Tuesday to cast their ballots in the midterm election.

As The Michigan Public Radio Network’s Jake Neher reports, both major candidates for governor say they’re confident they’ll win.

Recent polling suggests the race is close. But incumbent Governor Rick Snyder’s campaign spokesperson Emily Benavides expects a happy election viewing party after polls close.

“That’ll be our celebration,” she says.

But Democratic challenger Mark Schauer is equally confident.

“I made a weather forecast earlier today that might hold – a hundred percent chance of Schauer,” he says.  “So we’ll see what happens.”

Schauer is certainly campaigning harder than the governor on Election Day. He’s holding more than a dozen events across the lower part of the state as voters cast their ballots.
