Michigan’s film credits could be on the chopping block again as lawmakers look to close a hole in the state budget.

The previous Legislature extended the life of the film incentive program at the end of last year. But some Republicans in the state House say it should be the first thing to go to help address the budget issue.
State Representative Jeff Farrington chairs the House Tax Policy Committee.
“It’s a farce,” he says. “It’s a literal farce, the money that we’ve wasted in this state for people that aren’t even going to stick around many times.”
He says he has not yet looked over new legislation that would end the credits in October. That bill was sent to Farrington’s committee this week.
