Governor Rick Snyder is still in the hospital Friday.
He’s being treated for a blood clot in his leg. But, as we hear from Michigan Public Radio’s Rick Pluta, he’s keeping busy.
From his hospital room, Governor Snyder signed an executive order to combine two state departments. It’s part of plan to restructure how health, welfare, and human services are delivered.
Lieutenant Governor Brian Calley delivered the news reporters and editors attending a Michigan Press Association convention. He says the idea is to build services around what people need, instead of the requirements of government programs.
“The whole purpose here is to help people get from a place of dependence to a place of independence,” he says.
Calley says the state may ask the Obama administration to change some eligibility rules, and it may ask Congress to change some welfare laws.
