State lawmakers will again consider making major changes to Michigan’s medical marijuana system.

The legislation would make dispensaries and non-smokable forms of medical marijuana legal. Republican state Representative Lisa Lyons says patients such as children and people with respiratory problems should not have to smoke cannabis to get its medical benefits.
“They’d have to do so without fear of being arrested and prosecuted and being made into criminals,” she says. “These are not criminals, they’re patients.”
Similar legislation died late last year when law enforcement groups pressured lawmakers to kill the bills.
