A bill in the state House would require on-duty police officers to wear body cameras.

A group of Democrats – mostly from Detroit – are sponsoring the legislation.
Representative Rose Mary Robinson says more accountability is needed. She points to recent high-profile police shootings around the country.
“With the recent events nationally, it just reinforces my belief that we should do this,” she says. “We should protect people.”
Similar legislation with bipartisan support failed to move in the last legislative session – in part because of concerns over who would pay for the cameras. Robinson says it should be up to the state to foot the bill - and lawmakers should make it a budget priority.
