November 1st is All Saints Day, the Christian church’s time to honor all those who have achieved sainthood, and a day to recall departed loved ones. In the Mexican tradition, it’s observed as Dia De Los Muertos…or Day of the Dead.Day of the Dead focuses on gatherings of family and friends to pray and remember. Traditions connected with the holiday include building private altars called ofrendas, honoring the deceased using sugar skulls, marigolds, and the favorite foods and beverages of the departed.

WKAR’s Peter Whorf spoke with East Lansing’s All Saints Episcopal Church Rector Kit Carlson about her parish’s upcoming celebration, and the connection between the Mexican and Anglican traditions.
