Michigan is famous for being the Great Lake state, but is also permeated by hundreds of rivers and streams.  According to the state Department of Transportation, there are 36,000 miles of streams in Michigan.

MDOT claims that wherever you are in our state, you’re never more than six miles from either a stream or an inland lake.

Jeff “Doc” Fletcher is a lifelong kayaker and canoeist and has just released his 6th book, “Paddling Michigan’s Pine: Tales from the River.”

Current State speaks with Doc Fletcher and asked him more about his Michigan river adventures. He describes, in detail, a great local paddling route on The Red Cedar.
