Sun., Nov. 19 2-5pm | A live broadcast of the New York Philharmonic with the UMS Choral Union and Michigan State University Children’s Choir from Ann Arbor’s Hill Auditorium.

On Nov. 19, theNew York Philharmonic will perform at the Hill Auditorium in Ann Arbor. The concert is hosted by the University of Michigan’s University Musical Society, and will be broadcast live on WKAR through our partners at Interlochen Public Radio.

The broadcast celebrates the centennial of Leonard Bernstein’s birth. The program for the concert on the 19th will include Leonard Bernstein’s Symphony No. 3 “Kaddish”, narrated by Jeremy Irons. Leonard Slatkin will conduct. The performance will also feature the University Musical Society Choral Union, which will be directed by Interlochen alumnus Scott Hanoian.

Another alumnus, Matthew VanBesien, is the president of the University Musical Society and former executive director of the New York Philharmonic.

The broadcast will begin at 2 p.m. EDT. with a pre-concert show by IPR host Nancy Deneen and Associate Director of Media Production for the New York Philharmonic Mark Travis. The pre-concert show will include past performances by the New York Philharmonic, introduce the program and highlight several of the Interlochen alumni playing in the New York Philharmonic. The live performance will begin at 3 p.m.
