So, Jody Knol reached out to a retired voice from WKAR, former host/Program Director - Gene Purdum. Original broadcast on WKAR April 16th at 11am.
In 2013, after decades of work with WKAR, Gene Purdum retired. But for Public Radio Music Day, and the current circumstances of the coronavirus, we thought listeners might enjoy catching up with a long-time voice from WKAR who we've not heard from in a while. His friend and colleague, Jody Knol discuss Gene's new outlet which requires flexibility and the instrument he picked up again after 45 years.
At the end of this interview, we also asked Gene for an inspiring piece of music, and he chose a couple of options. One is a standard for many people, Beethoven's Ode To Joy from the 9th Symphony. In addition, he's been tuning into the Metropolitan Opera streaming performances, updated daily and with a plethora of operatic selections.
