How many times have you read a Facebook post or heard an argument and wonder if anyone listens to each other anymore… especially when the topic is race?? This week on All Things Considered, we are starting a series called “My Voice.” 

You will hear from 5 of your Michigan neighbors of diverse backgrounds their perspective on race and ethnicity.

No shouting, no arguing, just answering a few questions in hopes that we can all learn something. 

This week, you'll hear the perspective of five mid-Michiganders:

Ashley Bell

-Ashley Bell: multi-racial business woman who grew up in Lansing.

Juwan Clarke

-Justin Clarke: African-American Michigan State University student who grew up in Detroit.

Clara Martinez

-Clara Martinez: Chicana (Mexican-American)/Americore VISTA and teaching artist in Lansing. She was born in Colorado, raised partly in Texas, moved to Michigan when her father became a professor at Michigan State University.

Justin Sheehan

-Justin Sheehan: white (Irish and Greek ethnicity) attorney and Executive Director of the Lansing Promise, which provides scholarships to Lansing public school students. He grew up in a predominately African-American neighborhood in Lansing.

Arianna Quan

-Arianna Quan: Korean-American student. She was born in Beijing, raised in Michigan and served as the frist Asian-American Miss Michigan 2016-2017.
