Michigan will replace the ACT college entrance exam with the SAT starting in spring 2016.
The Michigan Public Radio Network’s Jake Neher reports.
The state has included a free college entrance exam for high school juniors with standardized tests for several years. The Michigan Department of Education said SAT’s bid came in $15 million less than other bidders. That’s over a three-year contract.
MDE spokesperson Martin Ackley says SAT will also provide more materials to help with the transition.
“Professional development for the teachers and the students and parents in understanding the new SAT,” he says.
Ackley says the SAT is being reworked to better assess students’ knowledge of subjects – and will be better aligned to the state’s standards.
