Parents learned via letter that a substitute teacher was dismissed from St. Johns Middle School because of content on a mobile device.
As was announced by a letter to parents on May 11, St. Johns Middle School dismissed and barred a substitute teacher from district buildings because of cell phone content.
After allowing school principals to examine the phone, the substitute was escorted from campus and had their involvement with St. Johns Public Schools terminated. The letter said that school administrators "did not feel comfortable allowing that individual to remain in the building."
The incident involving the substitute teacher's "suspicious" activity on the phone was reported by an eighth-grade student. Checking the camera roll on the same day, school administrators did not find any photos of students.
It was determined by local authorities that the substitute teacher's actions were not criminal. School officials confirmed that no charges have been filed.
The letter, written by St. Johns Public Schools Superintendent Dedrick Martin, said that staff "assured the students and want to assure you that all students are safe and their concerns were both heard and handled."
