The Lansing Catholic diocese will begin re-opening churches for daily worship starting May 18.
Parishes in the Lansing diocese will accept no more than five percent of their seating capacity for daily Masses from Monday through Saturday.
The plan is to increase the number to 25 percent starting May 29.
Spokesman David Kerr says parishes will have to be creative to enforce attendance limits.
“Some parishes are opting to use online sign-up, others are doing it in a more old-fashioned way,” Kerr explains. “But parishes will be upholding to or trying to keep that figure, but to do so in a way that’s sensitive to the needs of parishioners.”
Kerr says churches will maintain social distancing protocols and require attendees to wear masks.
He says priests and lay ministers will also wear masks when distributing Holy Communion.
