Communities and school districts in 70 counties will be holding local elections on Tuesday.Voters can see on the state government website www.michigan.gov/elections if there's an election in their community, or check with their county clerk.

Polls will be open from 7 a.m. EDT to 8 p.m. EDT on Election Day.

Secretary of State Ruth Johnson says the election is a "chance to be heard" on issues that affect local school districts, cities and community colleges.

Voters will be asked to provide a driver's license or photo identification card when they go to vote. If they don't have one or forget to bring it, they can sign a brief affidavit attesting to their identity.

The Michigan Information Center at www.michigan.gov/vote can tell residents if they're registered and where to vote.
