Grand Rapids is among a growing number of Michigan communities seeking to silence more powerful fireworks that now are legal in the state. The Grand Rapids Press reports the City Commission on Tuesday night voted unanimously to restrict the use of such fireworks.

Grand Rapids resident Penn-Davies says she and others in her Breton Highlands Condominiums complex are "scared to death of the fireworks."

Bottle rockets, aerial cakes, Roman candles, firecrackers all can be sold and enjoyed legally after lawmakers and Gov. Rick Snyder erased the ban. The newspaper says local governments may not prohibit the sale, but they may restrict their use except around national holidays including the Fourth of July.
