Reimbursement To Be Sought for Special Primary

Oakland County wants to be reimbursed for the $200,000 spent on a special primary to fill the final weeks of Thaddeus McCotter's term in the U.S. House.
County Clerk and Register of Deeds Bill Bullard says Thursday that he plans to bill the state.

Bullard says Wednesday's election called by Gov. Rick Snyder cost Oakland County taxpayers nearly $18 per ballot cast. He adds that blame is not being laid on Snyder or the state but on McCotter, who resigned July 6 during an investigation of irregularities in the nominating petitions that kept the Livonia Republican from seeking re-election.

Four former McCotter aides face state charges.

Kerry Bentivolio won Wednesday's primary and will face Democrat David Curson in the Nov. 6 special general election for the 11th District seat.
