Heading into 2013, Governor Rick Snyder is hoping to shift conversation away from controversial new policies like “right-to-work”.
The governor spoke with reporters Friday at a year-end roundtable discussion.
Snyder tried to use the roundtable to highlight actions in 2012 that had bipartisan support. They include a regional transit authority for southeast Michigan, and an agreement with Canada to build a new international crossing in Detroit.
When he was asked about the new “right-to-work” law, the governor said the president of the Michigan Economic Development Corporation is already getting calls from businesses now interested in moving to the state.
“I spoke with Mike Finney yesterday, and he said there’s at least one major opportunity, that didn’t have us on the list, to say Michigan’s on the list now,” he said.
Snyder would not say if he’d sign some other controversial bills passed this year, including new proposed restrictions on abortion providers.
