State lawmakers have dropped a proposal to limit able-bodied adults to four years on Medicaid.

The Michigan Public Radio Network’s Jake Neher has more.

The four-year limit threatened to torpedo legislation to vastly expand Medicaid eligibility in Michigan.

But some Republican lawmakers are still not on board with the expansion – which is part of the Affordable Care Act, otherwise known as Obamacare.

Republican Representative Mike Shirkey supports the bill. He says it still includes changes that would be good for taxpayers.

“We can do all those things and still wish for Obamacare to die, which I do,” he says.

One of those things would force some patients to pay higher premiums and co-pays after four years on the program. Many Democrats oppose that provision.
