Michigan environmental groups expect Governor Rick Snyder to endorse new clean energy standards in a speech next month.

Those expectations are based on a series of new reports on energy production in Michigan – the last of which hit Snyder’s desk this week. The study shows utilities are on track to meet or exceed the state’s current clean energy standards. It also says Michigan could produce up to 30% of its energy using renewable sources by 2035.
James Clift is with the Michigan Environmental Council. He hopes the governor will call for a long-term plan that includes ramping up renewables and energy efficiency goals.
“The idea of going more than maybe just 5 years into the future, think 10-15 years into the future, we think would be a positive move for Michigan,” he says.
Governor Snyder is expected to give an address next month on his energy policy priorities. Clift says he hopes lawmakers will take up the issue sometime next year.
