A leading figure on the Lansing City Council wants the body to hire its own attorneys to get to the bottom of a generous separation agreement involving former city attorney Janene McIntyre. Current State talks with council President Judy Brown Clarke and Lansing State Journal reporter Eric Lacy.
Efforts continue on the Lansing City Council and local news media to learn more about the mysterious and costly departure of a former city attorney. In February, Janene McIntyre agreed to a $160-thousand separation agreement with the administration of Mayor Virg Bernero. Neither McIntryre nor Mayor Virg Bernero has explained what led to her departure. The mayor negotiated the agreement with McIntryre with assistance from the law firm Dykema-Gossett. The Lansing City Council was not included in the process. Later, the mayor described it as “poor politics, but good business.”
On Monday, Lansing city council President Judi Brown Clarke will recommend that her fellow city council members hire outside legal help to learn more about the deal.
