Candidates Crisscross Michigan In Last-Ditch Campaign Stops

Candidates for governor, U.S. Senate and other top offices are crisscrossing Michigan on the eve of Tuesday's election.

Democrat Gretchen Whitmer and Republican Bill Schuette, vying for the governorship, each have seven campaign stops scheduled for Monday. Democratic Sen. Debbie Stabenow and GOP challenger John James are scheduled for two campaign events each.

Joining the candidates at many stops are contenders for attorney general, secretary of state, the Legislature, Supreme Court and university boards. Republicans control state government, and Democrats are eager to bounce back after being out of power for eight years.

Turnout could be higher than normal for a midterm election.
