On Monday, Terri Lynn Land became the first Republican to announce her candidacy for the U.S. Senate seat to be vacated by Democrat Carl Levin next year.

Land currently serves as GOP national committeewoman. Prior to that, she spent two terms as Michigan's Secretary of State, explored a bid for governor, and ran alongside Oakland County Sheriff Mike Bouchard as his Lieutenant Governor candidate. The Grand Rapids native spoke with Current State to talk about her visions for the campaign, her political identity, and what she feels she would bring to the position.
