In August of 1963, Lee June was a young college student. He was working in New Jersey that summer, though he attended one of the nation’s most prestigious historically black colleges in the South. Rather than attend the march, June instead came back to school.
Lee June went on to achieve a doctorate degree, and has spent 40 years at Michigan State University. He’s served in many positions, including Vice-President for Student Affairs and Services and Senior Advisor to the Provost for Racial, Ethnic and Multicultural Issues. Doctor Lee June grew up in segregated South Carolina. He told Current State’s Kevin Lavery about his life in those days.
