In his recent State of the State address, Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder called on the state legislature to join 20 other states already prodding the federal government to enact a constitutional amendment requiring a balanced federal budget. The Michigan Senate already agreed to such a proposal last November. It calls on the federal government to convene a constitutional convention in order to adopt a balanced budget amendment. Last week, the Michigan House began debate on it.

If and when 34 states pass such measures, it would mandate that the federal budget be balanced.

State Senator Mike Greenof Mayville says the federal government is "spending us into oblivion".
