Feb. 13 | Community Cinema: Las Marthas

FREE -- Thursday, Feb. 13, at 7 p.m. | See a short preview of the upcoming Independent Lens documentary and connect with your community on the importance of carrying on cultural traditions. | RESERVE SEATS HERE

Dating from the aftermath of the U.S.-Mexico War, the annual debutante ball in Laredo, Texas, is unlike any other. Las Marthas follows two Mexican-American girls carrying this gilded tradition on their young shoulders during a time of economic uncertainty and political tension over immigration.

Join the Discussion

The public is invited for a short preview of the film and discussion with Mary Delgado and Veronica Madrid. They’ll discuss ways a quinceañera celebration in Lansing contrasts with the Las Marthas celebration in Laredo.

About the Panelists

Mary Delgado and Veronica Madrid have led quinceañera classes at Cristo Rey Parish Church for many years.
