You can learn a lot about the character and culture of a region through the novels, short stories, and fiction written by its local authors. There’s the dark humor of the Southern gothic tradition and the adventure of countless pioneer stories set in the American West. But the Midwest hasn’t always had a cohesive literary identity despite producing some of the country’s most famous storytellers. That’s one of the reasons our next guest was excited to dig into the literary history of her home state.
