60,000 people are expected to gather for the annual Labor Day walk across the Mackinac Bridge. There will be major security restrictions this year.
From the Mackinac Bridge Authority, here is what you need to know:
-Traffic on the bridge will close from 6:30 a.m.-noon on Monday.
-Only buses and emergency vehicles will be permitted on the bridge 6:30 a.m.-noon.
-No fee to walk but bus rides cost $5 (infants are free).
-The walk begins at 7:00 a.m. behind the Governor's party.
-Walk begins in St. Ignace, north end of the bridge in the Upper Pennisula.
-The walk is nearly 5 miles long.
-Walk ends in Mackinaw City, south end of the bridge in the Lower Pennisula.
Vehicle bridge traffic will close from 6:30 a.m.-noon.
-Buses will be provided to return walkers to north end.
-Wheelchairs, baby strollers, working service animals are allowed on the bridge.
-Smoking, skateboards, roller skates, umbrellas, bicycles, wagons and similar devices are NOT allowed.
-No one can walk after 10:00 a.m.
-Anyone still walking at 11:30 a.m. will be picked up by bus.
